Privacy Policy
The Ikigai Collective is a volunteer-run community. This site sets no cookies and shows no ads. It collects two kinds of data: anonymous visit statistics, and the details you type into the Lab Night invite form or the partner form. This page says exactly what, where it goes, and how to have it removed.
Anonymous statistics
We use Umami Cloud to count visits and a few actions (for example, that someone opened the invite form, or read a Lab Note to the end). Umami's tracker uses no cookies. It collects page views, referrers, your browser, operating system and device type, and your approximate location. These numbers tell us whether the site is working; they are not sold or shared.
The Lab Night invite form
If you ask for the invite, we collect your email address and, if you give it, your first name. We use them for one thing: sending you the weekly Lab Night calendar invitation.
- Your email is added as a guest to the Lab Night event in a Google Calendar owned by the Collective. Google sends you the invitation. Guests cannot see each other: the guest list is hidden from everyone but the organisers.
- We keep a record in a private Google Sheet in the Collective's own Google account with four columns: email, first name, the date you signed up, and where you came from (for example, the site or campaign link you used). Only the organisers can open it.
- There is no newsletter, no marketing and no sharing of this list. We do not sell it or give it to partners.
- We keep it until you ask us to remove it.
The partner form
If you write to us through the partner form, we receive your organisation, the type of organisation, your email and your message. They are saved in a private Google Sheet in the same Google account, and the organiser is notified. We use them only to reply to you and to keep a record of the conversation. We keep them until you ask us to remove them.
Spam protection
Both forms use Cloudflare Turnstile to tell people from bots. Turnstile checks your browser and connection when a form loads, and Cloudflare processes that technical data under its own policy. We do not receive it.
What stays in your browser
The site remembers a few things on your device so the page behaves well, for example whether the logo animation has already played this session and which steps you ticked on the Join page. These live in your browser's own storage, are never sent to us, and are not cookies.
Hosting and the studio feed
This site is hosted on Vercel, and its source code is on GitHub. Like any host, they may log technical data about visits, such as IP addresses, for security and operations, under their own policies; we do not use those logs.
The "Inside the studio" section shows titles of threads that members chose to tag for the website in our Discord. It shows no names, only a general craft such as "A designer". The site's server reads this from Discord; your browser does not contact Discord when you view the page.
Services you may choose to join
The Collective lives on platforms we do not operate. If you follow a link from this site and sign up, your data is handled by that platform under its own policy:
- Discord: our community server and weekly Lab Night.
- Substack: the Lab Notes newsletter. If you subscribe, Substack processes your email address; we can see our subscriber list there and use it for nothing except sending the newsletter.
- Social platforms where we have accounts (X, Instagram, LinkedIn and others): each under its own policy.
Joining any of these is your choice, and leaving them is handled through those platforms.
Lab Notes and community content
We publish weekly Lab Notes, a public record of our sessions. Our editorial rule: members are not named and personally or commercially sensitive details are not published without that member's consent. If something in a published note concerns you and you want it changed, anonymized, or removed, contact us and we will do it.
How to be removed, and your other rights
To be taken off the Lab Night invite list, to have your row deleted from our sheet, or to have a partner enquiry erased, write to the privacy contact below, reply to any Lab Night invitation email, or message an admin on the Discord and say which you want. We will remove you from the calendar event and delete your record, and confirm when it is done. The same route covers access to what we hold about you, and corrections. For data held by Discord, Substack, Google, Vercel or Cloudflare themselves, contact that service.
Children
This site and community are intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect information from children.
Contact
Privacy requests go to mayur@mayursachdeva.com.
The fastest route for anything else is the Discord server (message an admin), a reply to any Lab Night invitation email, or an issue on GitHub.
Changes
If our practices change, this page changes first, with an updated date at the top. The history is public in the site's repository.
